“Chile-Australia: development and scientific opportunities for our future world”
We will be in touch with you soon.
Chilean students and researchers in Tasmania.
Pablo is a veterinarian from Valdivia (South of Chile) with experience in large animal clinic and aquaculture. In 2013 he came to Australia to do a master of animal science at The University of Melbourne. After completing his masters degree, Pablo stayed in Melbourne to do a PhD. Pablo’s doctoral research is focused on finding methods for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural industries. Specifically, Pablo has analyzed the effect of different diets and feed additives on methane emissions from dairy cows. Pablo is the president of CREGA, the research group for Chilean graduate students from The University of Melbourne and also part of the program committee of the 6th Chilean Graduate Conference.
Manuel is a wildlife veterinarian, graduated from the Universidad Austral de Chile. Before moving to Tasmania in 2014, he worked in research projects related to wild carnivores-livestock conflict, impact of climate change on amphibian populations and ecology of armadillos in Patagonia. During his doctoral research at the University of Tasmania, he has worked in understanding the physiological interactions between the Tasmanian devils and their transmissible cancer (DFTD) and how they may drive evolution between hosts and pathogen in the long term. He collaborates with the Tasmanian team in the general coordination of our conference.
Introducing some of our Hobart Team that is ready to help you with all the questions that you already have about our #6CGC 22-23 Nov 2018
Left to Right: Dr. Rafael Leon, Dr. Claudio Castillo-Jordán, Dr. Daniela Farias, our nearly future Dr (c). Javier Porobic, Dr. Mario Vega and PhD(c) Mauricio Ramirez
Dr. Claudio Castillo-Jordán is a Data Analyst Research Scientist with CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere where he started in April 2017 after finished his PhD. Claudio is also one of the Directors for the Chilean Graduate Conference 2018, a collaboration between Chilean Postgrad Students Association in Australia, CSIRO and the University of Tasmania. Claudio grew up in Linares, central Chile and did his Undergrad (Aquaculture and Fishing Engineer) in Concepcion (BioBio Region) at the Catholic University of Concepcion. After that, he started to work at the Oceanography Department in “Marines Populations Assessment Laboratory” at University of Concepcion in Chile in several fisheries projects funded by the Chilean Government. He was responsable for taking samples onboard, processing and reporting results. Then he decides to start his Master of science in Fisheries at University of Concepcion, working with small pelagic fish and environmental variables in Chile. After the big earthquake in Chile (2010), he made the decision to come to study his PhD in Hobart, arriving in June 2012 and starting his PhD in February 2013. Claudio has been with the CSIRO for the past 5 years, demonstrated connections in recruitment patterns across southern hemisphere fish stocks related to differing global and local environmental signals. He modelled the implications of incorporating environmental change to demonstrate its importance for sustainable management of global fish stocks. Recently Dr. Castillo-Jordan was part of a CSIRO delegation working in collaboration with IFOP in Valparaiso (Chile), implementing Management Strategy Evaluation for the Chilean fisheries.
