Javier Porobic is a marine biologist from the University of Concepción (Chile). He has focused his career on fisheries resource management putting special attention on fisheries sustainability, small-scale fisheries and Ecosystem-based fisheries management. His main interests range from large-scale processes to social processes that can ensure good management. He arrived in Australia at the end of 2014 to start his Ph.D. in the Quantitative Marine Science program between the University of Tasmania and CSIRO. His Ph.D. is focused on studying the sustainability of the fishing resources of the Juan Fernández Ridge, a highly vulnerable marine ecosystem off the Chilean coast. Currently, he is helping with the organization and creation of the program for the 6th Chilean Graduate Conference.
